Do you have a life?

Ever had a mid-life crisis? Wikipedia defines it as :

Midlife crisis is the notion, popular in certain cultures, that many middle-aged people go through a period of dramatic self doubt brought on by the realization that their life is half over and they haven't accomplished what they once wanted to. Supporters believe that there are other triggers, such as aging in general, menopause, or children leaving home. The result may be a desire to make significant changes in career, marriage or romantic relationship, and other core aspects of day to day life. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-life_crisis)

Personally I've been wondering more about whether I have a life. Ok granted, one could argue that a kitchen remodeling project that seems to stretch out to more than 6 months with a staggering number of mistakes and re-do's certainly seems to make clearly visible the boundaries of ones endurance. And the gas leaks in the newly installed water heater are certainly no help whatsoever.

The once clear boundaries of life, work and home are now all blurred together somehow as an item on the to-do list to work on.

During the start of remodeling our house my wife and I also started working on redoing an upstairs bedroom, repainted 90% of the indoor of our house and some more items while we had a week vacation coming up.

Needless to say that we were ready for a break. Normally I'm a big fan of geocaching but the thought of walking and searching for miles did not seem very attractive.

The destination of our choice was Copper Falls State Park near Mellen, Wisconsin. A gorgeous park with streams, pond and pretty view points.

Life Never having fished in my life while not planning to do much, my daughter Emma and I bought a fishing rod. At the state park I met Mark from Chippewa Falls, who invited me to a little fishing on the lake and he showed me basically how to get started with fishing.

The end result of our vacation from a couple months ago in that very quiet state park is that we now have 5 fishing rods, a nice bass boat and are hooked on fishing but I'll explain more about that later. The relaxation of the fishing and boating got me thinking why in the world I never took the time to figure how to get the most out of life

End result: Mid-life crisis?

I don't think so but a quest to focus on what I enjoy in life, with my amazing family and at the company where I work? Absolutely! My friend and mentor Russell Wright got me onto the four hour workweek from Timothy Ferris which I'm currently reading/listening to which is putting me on a course to sink my teeth into my life. The book that I just picked up from Claude Hopkins seems to start off with the 80 hour work week. Oh well.

Life is what you make it, Work is great (Ad-Lit is an great company to work for), Home is currently a disaster but I'm determined not to let any of them make this road sign tip over for me! After all I might make that list of things to do in my life. Show me yours and I will show you mine!
